Michael English is a lifelong resident of Providence, Rhode Island, whose deep roots and commitment to the city are matched only by his dedication to rigorous education and servant leadership. Born and raised right here on Nisbet Street, Michael’s journey through Providence’s educational institutions reflects his unwavering connection to the community he seeks to lead.

His education began at Martin Luther King public school for kindergarten, continued at St. Raymond’s from 1st through 4th grade, and included the transformative years at Nathan Bishop Middle public school from 4th through 8th grade, culminating in his  time at Hope High School yet returning to education in 1999 to get his GED. This local foundation instilled in him a profound understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Providence families across its neighborhoods and schools.
Michael’s professional preparation is marked by extraordinary diligence and a pursuit of diverse, high-level expertise across theology, law, and business. This journey of learning demonstrates the commitment and analytical skills he will bring to City Hall.

His academic achievements include:

2003: Paralegal Certification, establishing a foundation in legal analysis and process.

2004: Bachelor of Arts in Ministry (United Graduate College and Seminary).

2006: Master of Arts in Ministry (United Graduate College and Seminary).

2008: Doctor of Ministry (United Graduate College and Seminary), demonstrating a deep commitment to ethical leadership, community service, and complex problem-solving.

2017: Bachelor of Arts in International Business (Ashford University), providing a critical perspective on global commerce and economic development.

2019 Master of Business Administration (MBA) (Ashford University), rounding out his qualifications with expertise in management, finance, and organizational strategy crucial for effective municipal governance.
